题目材料:
Many people assume that artists working in the city of New York during the 1940s and 1950s locked first and foremost to European masters for their inspiration. That Eurocentric scenario, however, neglects the multicultural nature of New York and the notion of American artists as individuals. Native American artist Leon Polk Smith, who spent much of his life in the Southwest and was introduced to European modernism while a student in New York, understood what he saw from his unique cross-cultural vantage. For example, he saw the geometric stye of Piet Mondrian, a European master, as an extension of the Native American art of the Southwest. The dimensions, colors, and interwoven lines of Smith's own abstract paintings resemble those of Navajo blanket wall hangings.
